Standard VELUX pitched roof windows are designed to be installed at a minimum of 15 degrees, and it is advised not to go below this angle to ensure proper functionality and performance.
If you decide to go with a recessed flashing so the window sits nice and flush with the tiles or slates, just keep in mind that the minimum roof pitch needs to be 20 degrees.
A common mistake often made is using tiles or slates on a roof with a pitch that is below the manufacturers recommendations. To save yourself from the hassle and expense of replacing them later, take a moment to check the minimum pitch requirements before starting the installation.
VELUX offers a window specially designed for low-pitch roofs, and when paired with the right flashing kit, it can be installed on roofs with pitches as low as 10 degrees. It’s important to make sure the roof tiles are suitable for that pitch too. We’ve had great success using VELUX Low Pitch windows along with Plannum Low Pitch tiles from La Escandella. With proper installation—using clips, verge tiles, and ensuring enough overlap—they work beautifully at pitches down to 10 degrees.
